I recently reviewed her book here and found it such fun to read. If you're looking for something romantic and magical you should definitely check out The Wish List. Please welcome Gabi Stevens!
The fish-out-of-water is one of my favorite types of stories. A character stumbles into a situation where they don’t know the rules or culture and has to learn to exist in a new situation. That’s the premise of THE WISH LIST. Kristin Montgomery is a CPA in San Diego. When she discovers her three aunts are fairy godmothers and she’s next in line for the job, her orderly world disappears like magic. No, not like magic; it is magic. Kristin not only has to cope with burgeoning powers, but also a whole new world that she never knew existed. And when a threat to that world emerges, she has to visit everything to do the right thing.
Not an easy decision. Laugh if you will, but it reminds me of the dilemma in Night at the Museum, a rather cute movie. In it Teddy Roosevelt (Robin Williams) says to Larry Daley (Ben Stiller), “Some are born great, others have greatness thrust upon them.” Sometimes out course of action is less about our choices than the situation in which we find ourselves. How we react to those situations defines our character. I? Well, I’ve never really been faced with such major decisions, but I hope I’d respond like Kristin and Tennyson and do the right thing.
So combine the fish-out-of water with a difficult choice and you end up with a lighter paranormal that still has a message—THE WISH LIST. I love humor and find that a day without laughing is a wasted day. There is enough depressing news out there that for entertainment it’s rare I want something that will require Prozac when I finish. Confession time: I love Disneyland, fairy tales, roller coasters, cookies. Give me high adventure, romance and a few laughs.
So what kind of entertainment do you seek out?
Gabi Stevens’s latest book is THE WISH LIST. In it, she gives her characters the magic she doesn’t actually have herself. You can find it online or at a bookstore near you. Visit Gabi’s web site at http://www.gabistevens.com./
Hi Gabi,
ReplyDeletei've been wanting the books since i saw some reviews about it. i love to read books about paranormal and since you are a new Author, hoping this is a good start to know your works better :)
- what's your favorite scene(s) on this book ? did you find it difficult to write it ?
uniquas at ymail dot com
Hi, Mariska:
ReplyDeleteMy favorite scenes in this book are
1. The first time the hero and heroine meet
2.the camping scene
3.the scene in Tennyson's office (insert arching eyebrows), a type of scene that usually doesn't count as my favorite.
This book flowed out of me. Except when the day job got in the way.
Thanks for asking.

Great post.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great book. And thats a beautiful cover.
my question is what 3 words would you use to describe your main characters?
Rachael I saw you tweet about the contest.
elaing8(at)netscape(dot)net
This book really looks fun. ; ) I love the idea of "learning" to be a fairy godmother... & that the hero's name is Tennyson.
ReplyDeleteSo, question-time. : ) Are you a plotter or panster? And how much effort do you usually put into revisions or do you tend to edit as you go?
Thanks for sharing your book with us. Light-hearted fun is always a wonderful way to spend some time. : )
@elaing8: Wow, just three words? How about brave, determined, and uptight. Although she learns to over come that last one.
ReplyDelete@Christa:I'm a pantser, definitely. I revise after I finishe the entire book. Then I go through and fix what needs to be fixed, add what needs to be added, and take out what needs excision. Definitely not the most efficient way to write, but it works for me.
Hi Gabi, welcome! Thanks for being here today! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Gabi! The Wish List sounds so good! I'm adding it to my wish-list (lol) right now! My question for you is what made you decide to make your main character a fairy godmother?
ReplyDeleteHugssss
LindaH
I've been wanting to read the wish list ever since i heard about it, it sounds great...never read about a fairy godmother before. :)
ReplyDeleteMy question is: What are you currently reading? And are you currently working on any other project?
van

Linda, I don't know exactly how I happened upon fairy godmothers. I wanted a story with magic and I thought: Wouldn't it be funny if a woman discovered that her three aunts are fairy godmothers and she's next in line for the job. And she didn't even know there's magic in the world.
ReplyDeleteVan: Right now I'm reading Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. And Right now I'm working on the third book in the Time of Transition series, Toil and Trouble, and an essay on Glee that will appear in the fall in a book on the show.
Hi Gabi,
ReplyDeleteI have been stalking you all over the blogger world. I would love to know if you included humor in you book. I imagine with magic there is an unending opportunity to do so.
Robin K
Hey, Robin. I think think I know your avatar from Twitter too.
ReplyDeleteI always try to inject humor in my books. While the WISH LIST isn't a comedy, I hope you will laugh as you read it. I believe a day without laughing is wasted.
May your day be charmed,
--Gabi
Anything paranormal, I'm there.
ReplyDeleteRachael I saw your tweet about the giveaway.

The Wish List sounds great! Who are some of your favorite authors?
ReplyDeleteAmy: THe list is huge. Jodi Thomas, Julia Quinn, Jayne Ann Krentz, Jennifer Crusie, Teresa Medeiros, Elizabeth Bevarly, Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, Mark Twain, Agatha Christie, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, and so, so many more.
ReplyDelete--Gabi
Gabi: I'm with you, I like to be entertained with books and movies that are not realistic. For instance, heroes being able to kick evil's butt, not HOPE they get jail time and not get off on a technicality. I love paranormal romance and Happily Ever Afters too:)
ReplyDeleteThe Wish List sounds awesome. I'm with you on humor. Have you ever met someone that JUST didn't have a sense of humor?
Hi Gabi,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the release!! Thanks for sharing.
I love reading anything paranormal and when you add a touch of humor and romance I am incredibly happy. Reading something like that is my favorite form of entertainment.
What was your favorite part of writing this book?

(I personally love it and think it's divine! I usually dislike pink...but wow, it's amazing!) :)

Hi Gabi, Loved your interview. I may be a Sr citizen but I am still a kid at heart so this book was written for me. I love HEA, but like mystery and suspense also. You have put these together for a delightful book that I can't wait to read. Can you guess my favorite book? Cinderella.. Love the Fairy Godmother. I can even sing the song the mice sang. So many questions!
ReplyDeleteMoonsanity: I'd have to say I have family members who don't have a sense of humor.
Emma Kate: I love Pink, so this was perfect. When I saw it I thought the artist had read my mind. Seriously. I don't like blue, though, except in jeans.
YA Vampire books:Let's just say I believe in certain types of magic.
Giada: I would love to see my book in Italy. I hope it makes it there.
And Miss Kallie: Who says you ever have to grow up?
Thank you all of you for your responses. I hope you all love the book.
I entered earlier but I saw a tweet where you said if I let you know I heard about this contest on twitter I could get 10 extra entries:) I'm hoping this works:)
ReplyDeleteThanks!

Did anything in the book surprise you or was it all outlined and planned ahead of time?
ReplyDeleteLadytink_534(at)yahoo(dot)com
It usually depends on my mood, sometimes I want a drama or a thriller with suspense and other times I prefer light reads.
ReplyDeleteThe book sounds really interesting. I'm always looking for new paranormals!
