Demon Princess: Reign or Shine Review

Nikki Donovan has just turned sixteen years old and is adjusting to her new life after moving to Erin Heights. She’s friends with Melinda, the most popular girl in school and even has a date lined up with the gorgeous Chris Sanders. Everything is going great for her. She’s even giving her mom’s fourth husband a chance and hopes everything works out with their marriage.

But this strange boy at school named Michael keeps staring at Nikki and even follows her home from school one day. He claims to know the father she’s never known and is there to take her to him. Michael informs Nikki that she is a half-demon princess and her father is King of the Shadowlands which is in another dimension. Nikki doesn’t believe him and runs away from Michael, but when the evidence starts adding up that what he said is true, she has to figure out who she is and what this means before it’s too late.

Together Michael and Nikki travel to the Shadowlands to meet her father and discover what it means to be a Darkling. But when Nikki’s father tells her some disturbing news, she must make a choice that will forever change her life. Will Nikki give up her life in Erin Heights to forever live in the Shadowlands? What will happen if Nikki makes the wrong choice? Will her family and friends be hurt if she disappeared forever?

Demon Princess : Reign or Shine is the first young adult book written by popular paranormal romance author, Michelle Rowen and also the first book in the Demon Princess Series. I have adored, devoured, and inhaled every book that I’ve read by this author and I knew I was in for a treat when I heard she ventured out into writing Young Adult books.

Demon Princess : Reign or Shine is a romantic fantasy story filled with suspense and secrets to be revealed. The fantasy world is nicely described and made it feel like a dark fairy tale at times. This book is compulsively addicting and I guarantee you won’t be able to put it down until the exciting conclusion.

I loved the characters and was sad to see the story end. Nikki is a lovable character that you can’t help but root for, despite her being half demon. Overall, I loved reading this new series and I can’t wait to follow Nikki Donovan into more adventures in the next book, Demon Princess: Reign Check due out in June 2010.

  9. I didn't thing I'd want to read this book but after reading your review I'd like to give it a shot. I'm not impressed with the cover - I know, I know....you shouldn't judge a book by its cover!

  10. Hi Llehn!
Yes a demon princess is a unique twist on your everyday paranormal novel. I hope you enjoy it!

    Hi Cheryl!
Thanks for saying my review made you want to read it. :) That was really nice of you. Ok about the cover...some people don't like that the face is cut off the cover, I get that.

But what's inside is a great story so the cover doesn't matter. I have read alot of books by Michelle Rowen and seriously LOVED every single one of them. Alot of them are in the first person point of view which I enjoy.

They're fun, light hearted, hilarious, exciting, and always a quick read. I am a huge fan of her writing so if you've read her before I think you will like this book too. Remember it is YA so it's not going to read exactly like her adult books. It is aimed for a younger audience but adults can enjoy it too..I did. :) Hope you like it!
